NDLEA Destroys Narcotics Worth N2.5bn

Over 30 tons of illegal narcotics and other substances worth N2.58 billion were destroyed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Abuja yesterday.

Agents from the FCT Command and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport confiscated the substances.

Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd), the chairman of the NDLEA, declared that the organization will not back down from its fight against drug abuse and urged people to take charge of the fight against drugs.

The chairman, who was accompanied by Mrs. Victoria Egbase, Deputy Commander-General of Narcotics, said that the incident demonstrated the agency’s commitment to protecting Nigerians’ safety and well-being.

He said, “Today’s public destruction of over 30 tons of illicit drugs and substances, further buttresses that call to action. The break down of these drugs are 72.156kgs of Cocaine, 4.3838 Kgs of Heroin, 3.9kgs of Ephedrine, 20.185kg of Methamphetamine, 30,440.42kgs of Cannabis.

“0.2115kgs of Rohypnol, 274.891kg of Tramadol, 397.35kgs of Diazepam and 239.2kg of Khat, totaling 31, 531.09kgs. These drugs are valued at an estimated N2,580,209,783.00 in street value.”
