Court Grants Ex-AGF, Ahmed Idris, Other Bail

A high court sitting at Maitama, Abuja on Thursday, granted a former Accountant -General of the Federation (AGF), Ahmed Idris,and two others bail over alleged N109 billion fraud.

The presiding judge, Justice Adeyemi Ajayi, adopted all the terms and conditions of the administrative bail earlier given to the defendants, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

“In line with the due process and supremacy of the law, the Defendants are still entitled to bail, irrespective of the enormity of the allegations against them.

” The EFCC did not in any of its processes, stated that the Defendants misbehaved while on administrative bail”, Justice Ajayi ruled.

The defendants: Ahmed Idris, Godfrey Olusegun Akindele, Mohammed Kudu Usman and Gezawa Commodity Market and Exchange Limited, were ordered to despise to an affidavit of assurance to abide by their bail conditions.

As part of the bail conditions,the defendants must remain within the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and must seek consent before travelling out.

They must also surrender their International passports and give assurance that they would not procure alternate passport while on bail.

However, the defendants would remain in Kuje prison until they are able to perfect their bail conditions.

The ex-AGF and others had been remanded in person on July 22, for allegedly diverting public fund cumulating about N109.4 billion.
