A National Diploma (ND II) student of Kogi State Polytechnic, Shehu Mohammed has been sentenced to eight years in Prison for illegal possession of firearm and joining unlawful association.
The magistrate, Tenimu Mohammed convicted him after he pleaded guilty to the three- count charge of unlawful association, illegal possession of firearms, and membership of a cult group.
But the magistrate, however, gave him an option of N8,000 fine.

Prosecuting counsel, Samuel Ikutanwa, had informed the court that the convict was on April 9 arrested with a locally fabricated revolver and five rounds of live ammunition at the main gate of the polytechnic.
He said Mohammed who had come to the school for his ND II final examination, was intercepted by a “stop and search” officer who asked him to hand over his bag .
“Mohammed was overpowered by the institution’s security personnel, who arrest and handed him over to the police for prosecution,” he stated.
