The widow of Professor Godswill Obioma and the National Examinations Council (NECO) which he headed have given conflicting reports of how he died.
While his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Obioma said her late husband was assassinated, NECO claimed he died in his sleep.

Mrs. Obioma told journalists: “the assassins came in and killed him and left without taking anything.”
But NECO’s Director, Human Resource Management, Mustapha K. Abdul shared a letter from he said was from the deceased’s son. It read: “Dear Sir, this is to formally inform you that my father, Prof. Godswill Obioma, the Registrar/Chief Executive of NECO passed to eternal glory yesterday 31/5/2021 after a brief illness.
“We request that you kindly notify the Board, Management and the entire staff of the Council of this development.
“We shall keep you duly informed.
“Prince Godswill Obioma the 2nd, for the family.”
