The Chandler Good Government Index has as adjudged Nigeria as the third worst governed country in the world, and being ahead of only Zimbabwe and Venezuela.
In its 2021 report, the Chandler Good Government Index ranks Nigeria very low in governance, leadership and foresight.
Out of 104 countries, the report places Nigeria in 102 scoring the country with 0.319 points.
The 2021 report implies that Nigeria lacks the ability to handle corruption properly.
On leadership and foresight, the index, scores Nigeria 0.44. She gets 0.45 for anti-corruption and 0.47 for long-term vision. For strategic prioritization, Nigeria gets 0.41 while being scored 0.4 for innovation.

Other areas where Nigeria is ranked low include robust laws and policies, strong institutions; financial stewardship; attractive marketplace; global influence and reputation, and helping people rise.
Ranked as best nation is Finland with 0.848, and she is followed by Switzerland; Singapore; Netherlands; Denmark; Norway; Sweden; Germany; New Zealand and Canada.
Mauritius is the best ranked in Africa with 0.5670 points but 38 in the world.
The CGGI says it used the period of the COVID-19 pandemic to judge as it exposed the strengths and weaknesses in institutions, laws, and leadership in countries as governance decides the success of these countries.
“Good governance begins with good leadership. The culture of government leadership varies from country to country, but the CGGI’s highest-performing governments are united in three ways: a commitment to integrity, a strong vision and plan for their nation’s future, and the ability to make the most of their available resources,”it says.
