Court Jails Professor Of Soil Physics Over Electoral Fraud

A professor or Soil Physics and Conservation, University of Calabar, Peter Ogban, has been jailed three years by an Akwa Ibom State High Court for committing electoral fraud in 2019.

The man who was a Collation/Returning Officer during the National Assembly elections, was charged with manipulating and falsifying the scores of election results in Oruk Anam and Etim Ekpo Local Government Areas in for the All Progressives Congress.

While delivering his verdict, Justice Augustine Odokwo, held that it was beyond reasonable doubts that the accused was guilty as charged.

He then sentenced him to three years imprisonment. He also imposed fine of N100,000 on him

The man before he was sentenced, had pleaded with the judge to show him mercy on the ground of having dependants who included his 90-year-old mother. He also sought mercy on the ground that he was valuable to his community and that he was a lecturer who was well acknowledged his department at the university.
